The Mets who just lost a home series to the DIAMONDBACKS are at a tipping point. Currently at (53-52) they are 6.5 games behind the division leading Atlanta Braves. The Mets head to Atlanta for what could be their last meaningful series of 2010! Currently sitting six games and a half behind the Braves, they can ill afford to lose this series, in fact to salvage the season, they may have to sweep the Braves, in Atlanta. Then they have another tough series with the Philadelphia Phillies, who are currently 3.5 behind the Braves. The Mets must also show up to play in Philadelphia or their is no chance the Mets will be playing meaningful baseball in September, let alone October. This week, and season could spiral out of control fast. Jerry Manuel has been very level headed and even keeled so far this season, confident the Mets will be in contention at the end of the year, well Jerry, its time to shake things up! Maybe pull a Billy Martin, pull names out of a hat, it could be no worse than the production thus far.
On a positive note, the Mets have exactly who they want on the mound tomorrow in the biggest game of the year, Mr. Santana. Excluding his last start, Santana was fantastic in July, truly showing he is a second half pitcher. 44 innings pitched, 24 hits allowed, 39 strikeouts, nine walks, and a 0.00 ERA in July his best month of the season by far. He needs to be the stopper and the Ace that they pay him to be. He is a leader of the team and he needs to start this tough road trip on a good note, or the notes following will be shrieks!
