What better to open the New Meadowlands stadium with than a good old fashioned hard nosed game between two teams who share the same stadium?
The Giants defeated the Jets on August 16th, marking the official baptism of the new stadium. It wasn’t pretty either. Giants-31, Jets-16.
Imagine. Your helmet coming off during a football game. And then all of a sudden another helmet hitting you in the forehead. No protection. This scary situation was very real for our boy Eli, who left the game with lacerations to his forehead due to a collision with Calvin Pace earlier on in the game. Signs point to Manning being okay, yet still… very scary.
During his time in the game, Ahmad Bradshaw raced for 57 yards on the day. Brandon “The Juggernaut” Jacobs scored the inaugural touchdown at the new stadium. Mark Sanchez went 13 for 17 passing for 120 yards, yet was sacked by Jason-Pierre Paul, the rookie defensive lineman for the Giants. Ladanian Tomlinson went for 17 yards off of eight carries.
Well, the Giants have bragging rights obviously. But is this a foreshadowing of the success of both teams later on in the season? Will the Jets be better than the Giants? Will the Giants be better than the Jets? One can only wonder…
