With many of their top players injured, the Giants have managed to stay in the playoff picture with a comeback win against the Jaguars and a lopsided victory against the Redskins. Now, with lineman David Diehl and receiver Steve Smith due to return on Sunday against the Vikings, the Giants are looking to continue their winning streak.
The biggest headline this week, though, has been the status of Vikings quarterback Brett Favre. At 41 years old, Favre is most likely going to miss his first start since he came into the league in 1991. But this might be beneficial for the Vikings: after Favre exited last week’s game after spraining his shoulder, the Vikings scored 38 points against the Bills with second string QB Tarvaris Jackson under center. Jackson threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
But the real threat for the Giants in running back Adrian Peterson. Peterson ran for 107 yards and 3 touchdowns last week, and will likely do most of the work this week against the Giants. The Giants have had trouble stopping guys backs like Maurice Jones-Drew, Chris Johnson and Lesean McCoy who all rushed for over 100 yards. If Peterson is stopped though, the Giants will have an easy time beating the Vikings and taking the lead in the NFC East.
Prediction: Giants 31, Vikings 17
