The Yankees have announced their signing of Free Agent RHP Mark Prior for a one year minor league deal that can be worth up to 750,000 if he makes the opening day roster. Mark Prior has not made a big league start since 2006 when he did so with the Chicago Cubs. The Yankees see him as a candidate to be part of the their bullpen.
The Associated Press Reports:
“Still trying to come back from shoulder surgery, Prior spent most of 2010 with an independent minor league team. He could be reunited with former Chicago Cubs teammate Kerry Wood, who was New York’s setup man late in the season and then became a free agent.”
The Yankees have also come to terms with FA Catcher Russel Martin. He signed a one year contract, that includes a year where he is arbitration eligible.
…Not only does Martin come in as the likely starting catcher, but his addition allows the Yankees the flexibility of trading Catching Prospect Jesus Montero in a deal to aquire some pitching help…
